The city by its kitchens

# Private Cairo Food Expeditions

Eat through Cairo with a guide: breakfast counters, market lanes, old cafés and a proper dinner, with stops chosen for hygiene as much as flavour.

## What a good food day in Cairo includes

Places you would not find alone and places you would not try alone, with someone who orders, explains what has arrived and handles the getting around.

Downtown, historic Cairo and the Nile bank

## What goes on the table

- Breakfast classics: ful, taameya and fresh baladi bread
- Koshari, eaten where it is the only thing on the menu
- Molokhia, stuffed vegetables and grilled meats at a sit-down lunch or dinner
- Seasonal juice, sugar cane, and tea or coffee in an old café
- Desserts such as om ali, konafa and basbousa

Eating and walking in Cairo

## Evenings and walks you can book

The food expedition is the dedicated evening. The two walks pass some of the same lanes by day and leave room to eat along the way.

1 Day

### Islamic Cairo: The Open Air Museum

Walk from the northern gates of Historic Cairo towards Moez Street and Khan el-Khalili. The route connects religious buildings and market lanes, with stops to look at stonework and time for tea or coffee. Expect walking on uneven surfaces and busy streets.

## Allergies, hygiene and honest limits

Tell us about allergies and dietary rules when you enquire, not on the night. Vegetarians eat very well in Cairo, since much everyday food is built on beans, lentils and vegetables. Severe allergies are harder, because small kitchens can’t always say what touched what.

Alcohol is not served at most local food stops. If you would like wine with dinner, we plan the final restaurant around that.

## Street food, plainly

### Is street food in Cairo safe to eat?

It can be, and the choice of vendor matters. We favour busy places with quick turnover, food cooked in front of you and bottled water. If your stomach is sensitive, we lean towards sit-down kitchens serving the same dishes.

### Can food be part of a longer itinerary instead of one evening?

Yes. A breakfast stop before Islamic Cairo, a seafood lunch in Alexandria or a meal with a Nubian host in Aswan can be written into days you already have.

## Tell us what you eat and what you won’t

List allergies, dietary rules and how adventurous you feel, along with the Cairo nights you have free. We’ll propose a route and say clearly if any stop can’t be made safe for you.
