What no guide can change on the plateau
Going inside a pyramid needs its own ticket on top of general admission. Decide before the day whether you want an interior, because it changes both the cost and the order of the visit.
Expect sand, uneven stone and very little shade. A private vehicle shortens the walks between viewpoints and your guide can reorder the stops, but nobody can make the site flat or cool.
Four shapes the day can take
- Half day: the plateau, the Sphinx and the Valley Temple, then back to your hotel for lunch
- Full day: Giza in the morning, then Saqqara and the Step Pyramid of Djoser after lunch
- Giza with the Grand Egyptian Museum: outdoors first in the hot months, galleries afterwards
- A separate day for Saqqara, Memphis and Dahshur, if the older pyramids are your real interest

Is Saqqara worth adding to a Giza day?
If you care how pyramids came to be, yes. Saqqara is older and often calmer than the plateau. It also means a drive and a second long visit, so with young children or in high heat we would keep it for another day.
What time of day is best for the Pyramids?
Early morning is usually best for light, heat and crowds. Check the current opening times for your date before fixing the plan.
Can we see the Grand Egyptian Museum on the same day?
Yes, as a full day with roughly half for each. Giza, Saqqara and the museum together make a very full day; we would choose two of the three.
