What “luxury” should mean in a proposal
Start with the route and the time available. Then compare the proposed hotels, guiding, vehicles and daily schedule; the label “luxury” does not tell you what is included.

What private changes, and what it doesn’t
Private means the guide and the vehicle are yours for the day. You choose the start time, decide how long to stay in a tomb or a gallery, and stop for lunch when you are hungry. For three generations travelling together, keen photographers and anyone who asks a lot of questions, that control is most of the value.
It doesn’t change opening hours, ticket rules, flight times or the afternoon heat at Karnak. A group tour shares the cost and suits travellers who are happy with a common timetable. If that sounds like you, say so, and we will tell you whether a private route is worth the difference.
Most private days can begin at your hotel, the airport or a cruise dock, so a journey doesn’t have to start where a brochure says it does.

Where a first route usually goes
Cairo and the Nile Valley carry most first trips. Keep the sea or an oasis for the end, when you will want to stop moving.

A long overland journey to salt lakes, springs, palm groves and a mud-brick old town. Worth it for three nights or more, not as a quick add-on.
Questions before you ask for a proposal
How many days does a private journey through Egypt need?
Seven days covers Cairo and the Nile Valley. Ten to fourteen leaves room for the Red Sea, Siwa or slower days in between.
Can the whole trip be private?
Guides, vehicles, day tours and transfers can all be private. Nile boats are the usual exception: most sailings are shared, though your shore visits can still be guided privately and a dahabiya can sometimes be chartered.
Can we change the plan once we are in Egypt?
Within opening hours and route limits, yes. A private guide can usually adjust the pace, photo stops, lunch or an optional site on the day. Flights, boats and timed tickets are harder to move.
